Mold Removal Methods

If you ever notice a fungus developing inside your office complex in Chicago, it most likely was caused by a water leak of some kind. If moisture slowly leaks over time microbe issues get worse the longer materials stay wet. Mold can cause health effects with some people making prompt remediation essential.

Once fungi forms inside a structure, they can quickly spread to other sections of the office building. During every commercial mold damage project in Chicago, specific procedures get implemented to keep microbes from affecting multiple areas. Spores created by the contamination become airborne until they settle somewhere else.

Once a fungus exists inside your offices, our SERVPRO technicians use different techniques to remove the contamination from the materials. Before any work takes place, the affected sector of the office complex gets sealed off. Thick plastic gets put up around the entire affected area creating a containment chamber.

Containing the work area with plastic helps keep any dust or spores from contaminating more sections of the office. In most cases, a hole gets cut into the chamber, and an air scrubber gets zip-tied to the plastic around the hole. Doing this creates negative air pressure within the containment chamber that sucks particles into the air scrubber forcing it through a HEPA filter that attracts even the tiniest particles.

Next, measures get taken to remove the contamination. In certain situations, the fungi have grown deep into the materials requiring the affected items to get removed. Other times, the mold can get scrubbed, scraped or sanded off.

Various methods get implemented depending on the type of mold damage and how long it has been present. Some contaminated materials can be wiped with a dry sponge or scrubbed off. Other fungi require soda blasting or sanding to get removed entirely.

After the fungi get removed from the affected items, a HEPA vacuum is used to suck up the remaining dust and debris created by the work completed. The HEPA filter in the vacuum ensures that clean air is exhausted out of the vacuum.
